This term our topic is titled 'Street Art'. During term 5 and 6 we will be exploring different types of art work including Cave art, Street art and Modern art. Our aim for this topic is to develop the children's creative sides and will be providing them with the opportunities to express themselves individually.
Last week we looked at the artist Pier Mondrian. The dutch artist is most famous for his rectangular blocks of red, yellow and blue, separated by thick black lines.
During Forestry Friday the children worked together to create their own version of his famous art work. They worked together to attached thick black lines onto white paper then carefully painted rectangular blocks using the three primary colours.
This week, on Wednesday, Tigers and Zebras will be going on local walks around St Pauls to look for high quality graffitti and street art. If you would like to come on the walk with either class please speak to Mr Caldwell or Miss Pearce.
We hope that you will support us during this topic and that you share your child interest in 'street art'.
On another matter, the children are doing really well with their reading and several children are moving through the different levels rapidly. We encourage you to continue to read EVERY night with your child, as our expectation is that they should be on at least level 6 by the end of the year. You may have noticed that your child is bringing home a book at a lower level. We have introduced this to develop the children's fluency and accuarcy within their reading. This will support them even more in moving through the different levels.
